21 Words, 21 Works is a collaborative bookmaking project centered around graphic interpretations of specific words. Each student completes a project based on an assigned word, documentation of which is used to create a single folio. At the end of the term, students distribute copies and each folio is combined to create 21 distinct books which contain all individual projects.
I interpreted the word “Telling” by wearing kevlar suits for several weeks, allowing any stains to accumulate and tell the story of my daily activities. I photographed myself wearing the suit and used an overlay to diagram and explain the source of each stain. After my folio was complete, I took apart the suits and used the actual material to create the chapter dividers and cover for my book.
